Squoosh: Optimized images load faster
Optimize images so that they load faster without any significant loss of quality. This is made possible by the new Google tool Squoosh. The images can be optimized directly in the browser, a useful tool for SEOs and webmasters.
The image files to be edited simply need to be dragged and dropped into the browser. Amazingly, the file size is reduced by more than half, depending on the image, without any noticeable deterioration in image quality.
Internet connection not necessary
As the tool works locally on the user’s device, it can also be used offline. Squoosh was presented together with various other Google innovations, all in connection with the faster loading of websites. New is an updated version of PageSpeed Insights and a revised platform with tips for optimizing websites.
Squoosh can be tried out with a few test images, such as a large photograph or an SVG icon.
Select image quality with slider
The desired picture quality can be set using the slider. Further settings can also be made with Squoosh. In this section, for example, progressive rendering can be activated or deactivated. The tool provides the following output formats:
- JPG
- PNG
- WebP
